Cotton jersey is a lightweight, soft, and stretchy fabric that offers both comfort and durability. With a composition of 95% natural cotton and 5% elastane, this fabric is especially pleasant to wear thanks to cotton’s breathable, gentle qualities, while the elastane provides a bit of stretch for freedom of movement. It’s ideal for everyday clothing, children’s wear, and sportswear.
Sewing tips:
When sewing with cotton jersey, it’s recommended to use Jersey or Stretch needles, which are specifically designed for stretch fabrics. These needles have a rounded tip that allows them to glide easily between the jersey fibers without damaging the fabric. Needle size usually depends on the fabric’s thickness, but common sizes suitable for cotton jersey are 70/10 or 80/12.
